Why Are Tears Important?
Tears moisten the eyes and wash away dust and other foreign matter. They also keep away infection and help the eyes to focus. The eye surface is covered by a tear film consisting of three layers. The first is the outer layer that keeps tears from evaporating. The second layer makes up over 90 percent of the entire film. It consists of water, salt and protein. The third layer is an inner mucous layer that keeps the tears on the eye.
What Creates Dry Eyes
Dry eyes can develop because of menopause, aging, certain medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and specific medication.
